Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by
narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the
dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening
thought and action;
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941)
Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, visual artist, playwright, novelist, and composer. He became Asia's first Nobel Laureate when he won the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature.

But can the mind be withoout fear even in the abscence of propaganda?
I understand the above poem was his dream for India. Its intriguing.
btw: Have you read master and margarita?
The answer to your question is yes. I remember a peaceful sense of well-being when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's, despite hardships. The world is very different now.
Yes, it was Tagore's dream and prayer for India. The poem was written during the British Raj's time in India.
And no, I have not read master and margarita. I read the wiki entry and it sounds like a great story. This is the first time I have heard about this book. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
